Built on this foundation is the upcoming Nexus Exchange, a central limit order book (CLOB) spot and perpetual futures exchange. NexusEVM provides a parallel Ethereum-compatible environment for general-purpose applications that can interact with the exchange. NEX is the native token used to stake and secure the network, pay transaction fees, and access benefits on the exchange.
Following the mainnet launch and TGE, Nexus has two primary milestones scheduled for 2026. USDX — a stablecoin fully backed 1:1 by US Treasury bills, issued in partnership with M0 Protocol — is scheduled to launch in mid-2026. USDX will serve as the native quote and margin currency for the Nexus Exchange, the second product milestone to launch in 2026, with margin deposits accruing yield from the underlying Treasury bill backing.
Nexus combines a distributed verifiable compute network with an exchange, within an exchange-optimized blockchain. exchange directly enshrined in the blockchain's protocol layer. Most exchanges — centralized or decentralized — treat trade execution as a trust assumption: users must rely on the operator to have matched orders correctly. On Nexus, execution correctness is cryptographically provable; the same compute network that will secure the chain will generate proofs of every exchange operation.
NEX staking will underpin the economic security of the network’s computation. As exchange volume grows, demand for verified computation grows with it, directly linking exchange activity to network security and NEX utility. The exchange's non-custodial design means users retain on-chain custody of assets between and after trades, with no counterparty exposure to the operator.
Nexus was founded as a scientific and engineering effort to commercialise decades of research in zero-knowledge cryptography. In May 2024, the project publicly introduced the Nexus zkVM. In October 2024, Nexus launched the first open, distributed verifiable compute network.
Through 2024 and 2025, Nexus ran multiple public testnets, attracting millions of participating nodes globally. In February 2025, Nexus announced the Nexus Layer 1 — formalising the full blockchain architecture including the Execution, Consensus, and Verifiability layers. In 2025, the company raised $27.2M across seed and Series A rounds from Lightspeed, Pantera, Dragonfly, SV Angel, Alliance, and Faction. Later in 2025, Nexus announced the Exchange-blockchain vision, unifying the economic benefits of $NEX, an exchange-focused blockchain and verifiable compute, Mainnet launched on 21/04/2026, accompanied by the NEX Token Generation Event.
NEX has three primary uses on the Nexus network.
First, NEX is used to pay for transactions and gas on the Nexus Layer 1 blockchain. All on-chain operations — including contract deployment, asset transfers, and interactions with NexusEVM applications — require NEX to cover execution costs.
Second, NEX is used to pay for verifiable compute jobs on the Nexus compute network. The network matches proof demand — computations requiring cryptographic verification originated from the Layer 1 itself — with proof supply from nodes. NEX is the payment medium through which compute requestors compensate the nodes generating those proofs, and the staking asset through which validators secure the network's Consensus Layer.
Third, NEX will serve additional utility functions in connection with the Nexus Exchange, scheduled to launch in October 2026. Specific exchange-related token mechanics will be detailed ahead of the Exchange launch.
Nexus has raised $27.2M across seed and Series A rounds from Lightspeed, Pantera, Dragonfly, SV Angel, Alliance, and Faction.
